Summer Term 2023
Lancashire School Games
at Stanley Park, Blackpool
Tuesday 4th July
Y5/6 Orienteering Team: Khadijah, Amaya, Sophie, Deen, Muhammad I, Zayd
We spent the morning familiarising ourselves with the park and TRYING to find our way over to watch Y3/4 ! Mrs Heyworth was hoping a medal winning orienteering team would have better map reading skills than herself! Thank goodness Mrs Riaz had joined us for the day! Once we had finally arrived at our starting destination, our team performed well against the other boroughs. It was a challenge to navigate around the whole of Stanley Park and find 18 checkpoints. All pairs returned between 40 and 45 minutes. Zayd and Amaya found 17; Sophie and Deen found 15 and Muhammad and Khadijah found 13. A superb effort in warm weather. Well done team Balderstone!
Y3/4 Striking and Fielding team: Aleena, Inaaya, Eleanor, Juwairiyah, Liyaana, Aaisha, Eshaal, Poppy S, Amaarah, Aliza
The children participated in a carousel of activities to develop their striking and fielding skills: from bowling and hitting a target to catching, throwing and batting. The children had a wonderful time and made huge progress throughout the day. They represented school and the borough well and displayed excellent sporting values. Mrs Gow also had a wonderful time developing her skills alongside the children.
The day started with a procession of the borough teams and an opening speech from the mayor of Blackpool and the sponsors from SPAR. It ended with a fabulous "Party in the Park" and some great dancing from, not only the children, but also Mrs Gow, and our parent helpers! What a fantastic end to a very exciting day.
A special thanks to Amaarah's Mum and Dad, Poppy's Mum and Deen's Mum for coming along to support us, help us and transport us to Blackpool.
Y5/6 Girls Football League meeting 2
at Roefield 3G pitches
Monday 3rd July
Team: Anna, Abigail, Khadijah M, Georgia, Amaya, Alayna, Aleena, Matilda, Hannah, Emaan, Laura,
Our girls team have made so much progress this year. From our very first match, where we lost 6 -0 and the girls lacked confidence..... to a team of girls who work well as a team, have grown in confidence and were winning matches.
Our first 2 matches were against Pendle Primary and Waddington and West Bradford - the 2 schools at the top of the league table, who eventually went on to finish in 1st and 2nd place. We held our own and our defence was strong and we were thrilled to finish both games with a draw!
We won a further 2 games, 1-0, with goals from Anna, assisted by Abigail against St Josephs' Hurst Green and Salesbury. Unfortunately, we also encountered 2 narrow losses against Langho St Leonard's and St Michael and St John's, but the children showed the real Balderstone spirit and excellent sportsmanship. They should be extremely proud the progress they have made this year. Well done girls and thank you to all the parents for your support.

As a result of the A teams success they will now be representing Ribble Valley in the orienteering event at the youth games.
A special Well done to our medal winners: Khadijah M, Muhammad I, Amaya, Zayd, Sophie and Deen who will now represent Ribble Valley at the Lancashire School Games.
Y3/4 String and Fielding Festival
at Wilson's Playing Fiekds
Tuesday 16th May
Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic time practising their striking and fielding skills at Accrington Academy on Tuesday afternoon. We took part in different activities to perfect our skills and then played a match of rounders. We played alongside children from other schools and made new friends. Mrs Riddell was very impressed with Foxes’ enthusiasm and teamwork. Thank you to Mrs Leaver and Mrs Dixon for coming with us. A great afternoon!
Y1/2 Animal Olympics
At Oakhill School
Wednesday 10th May
Year 1 and 2 had a fabulous time at Oakhill at the Animal Olympics event. The three teams all performed amazingly well and we had some Bronze medal winners! All three of our teams came in the top 10 of all the schools. The Animal Olympics are simply athletics style activities - running, jumping, throwing, bouncing, catching and each event has an animal name - eg, Rabbit relays, Cheetah sprints etc. The children gather points for every time they complete a circuit of a game.
