Collective Worship

Collective Worship at Balderstone St Leonard’s

Collective worship is the beating heart of our school and is central to our Christian vision. Rooted in God’s love, it shapes the life of our school community and underpins all that we do. As a school, we pray, worship and ask big questions about the world and the times we are living in.

Worship is a daily, shared experience which enables pupils and adults to grow spiritually, explore Christian beliefs and values, and reflect on how these influence the way we live and flourish together.

Day Focus Led by Purpose, Impact and Pupil Involvement
Monday Wonder in the Word Mrs Riddell Worship begins with engagement in Scripture, encouraging pupils to explore big questions about life and faith. Through Open the Book, pupils actively take part in retelling biblical stories, developing understanding and confidence.
Tuesday Respond and Reflect Class teachers Pupils reflect, discuss and respond to the weekly theme in an age-appropriate way. They contribute ideas, ask questions and share personal reflections, strengthening pupil voice.
Wednesday God’s Word Together Mrs Draycott Worship deepens understanding of Christian teaching. Pupils contribute to discussions, helping them make connections between belief and daily life.
Thursday Devotion and Delight Mrs Cast and Rev. Nathaniel Pupils consider how to live out the message of worship in their own lives. Opportunities for reflection and discussion support spiritual growth and personal response.
Friday Celebration Worship Mrs Draycott Worship celebrates those who live out the school’s Christian vision. Pupils share and recognise achievements through Flourishing Friday, affirming values in action. Families are welcomed.

Collective worship is inclusive, invitational and inspiring, offering opportunities for prayer, stillness and reflection. Pupils play an active role through storytelling, discussion and shared leadership, developing confidence, responsibility and a sense of ownership.

We are committed to ongoing evaluation of worship through pupil voice, staff reflection and leadership monitoring. This ensures worship continues to deepen understanding of God, strengthen relationships and support the spiritual growth of all members of our school community.
