Autumn Term 2021

Autumn 1 Sports News

It has been great to see the return to competitions this term and we have been blown away by the sporting values that Balderstone Children have displayed at every event. Whilst we may not have been successful in the competitive sense, the children have won the hearts of each member of staff who have been at each event. At every single outing, we have seen our 6 key sporting values in operation throughout. No-one allowed the feelings that come with losing games to get them down – their heads remained high and the Balderstone fighting spirit remained with them to the end of each and every game. They certainly all seemed to appreciate being able to represent school once again and nothing was going to spoil that for them. Well done to all those children who represented us so well.

Our wellbeing warriors, Paloma, Leo, Muhammad and Aushah, represented us at Accrington Academy and we have also returned to our after-school club opportunities: “Wellbeing Wanderers”; football, hockey, netball and martial arts have all returned to school once more.

Elsewhere in school, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have all enjoyed learning to ride bikes on the balance bikes when participating in the "Tots on Tyres" programme; Year 5 and 6 have completed their 'Bikeability' training to help keep them safe on the roads; Year 5 have enjoyed 2 days at The Anderton Centre enjoying OAA activities and some children from Y4, 5 and 6 have completed an intensive 10 day swimming course! What a busy half term!!

Keep up the good work everyone. Remember that keeping active helps us keep both physically and mentally well. A huge thank you for all our parental and staff support of our sporting events – special mention to Mr Hussain (Bilaal’s dad).

A busy and competitive field containing some amazing runners from across the Ribble Valley.  The girls team finished in 6th position overall with some strong runs from Emma, Abigail and Emily.

All the children competing made Balderstone proud! What a team effort! When our front runners had completed the course, they decided to support their team mates who were finding it more challenging. They ran around again beside them with words of encouragement. It was heart-warming to watch and showed everyone what being part of the Balderstone family is about. The children who struggled would not be beaten! The determination they showed to complete the course was to be admired. No medals, but lots to be proud of. Well done everyone! Thanks to parents for transporting children to and from the event.

The first meet up of our league matches was in much brighter conditions than the meeting last week! We played against Barrow A, Waddington, Langho St Leonards and Gisburn. Unfortunately we lost all our games, but not without a fighting spirit and lots of determination. A special well done to Ayden for his excellent goal keeping skills! Well done to all involved and thank you to Mr Simpson for his expert coaching. A special thank you to all the parents for their transportation and support of the children in such miserable conditions.
