The children in Foxes had an amazing day. They were invited to take part in a workshop at BAE's Academy of Skills And Knowledge. They were privileged to be introduced to a very special visitor, Prince Charles. The prince spent around 15 minutes With the children, discussing their biomimicry projects. He was very taken with the tortoise inspired helmet and the ant eater inspired hoover!!
The children were then invited down into the hanger as His Royal Highness officially opened the academy, they then waved him off with their union jacks.
A very special and memorable day, thank you BAE.
We have spent the day celebrating all things reading! We started the day with our storyteller breakfast and enjoyed a range of reading activities: crafts, scavenger hunting and sharing stories and breakfast together. The children's cloaks were an absolute triumph, with every child coming with a home-made, creative masterpiece to represent their favourite book/author. There was a superb mix of different designs, authors and books and lots of thought and creativity had obviously been used to create the superhero reader capes. Many thanks to all the parents who came into school and attended our parental workshop and reading session in class. The children have been taking part in a range of different book themed activities and even enjoyed book themed maths session too! Our whole school book swap was very exciting as all pupils could recommend and swap their favourite reads and we all came home with new reads. Some of us are even trying new authors for the first time.
This afternoon we had our superhero reader cape parade and had the chance to see each other's creations. Our special reading day ended with a visit from the Gideon's, with Ralph Taylor coming in to tell the children all about the work the Gideon's do to share the Bible with people all over the world. What a wonderful reading day we have had! Many thanks to all the children, parents and staff who make Balderstone such a wonderful reading school!
