Team 11: Eva, Thomas B, Poppy S

Team 12: Poppy B, Ralph, Liyaana

It was great to be able to participate in this event once again, and to be able to welcome in our parents to cheer the children on. After having participated in a fabulous after school club run by Mrs Gow, the children were able to put their newly found skills into practice  against the different local primary schools: 16 teams competed at the event. Mrs Burton, Mrs Draycott and Mrs Heyworth each supported a team as they circulated around the sports hall. Mrs Burton proved herself to be an excellent team manager and secretively competitive as she coached and encouraged her team with tactics! Her tactics and the children's skills allowed the children to reach the semi finals and, ultimately,  the finals. The final game against Whalley was tense and exciting. Our Dads were super competitive and supportive and there was lots of cheering along them way. The winning point came down to the last stone and the children were crowned winners, coming home with GOLD medals. Well done children and many thanks to our parents who transported and supported on the night.

The children took part enthusiastically in a selection of track and field events against 8 other local schools. Our girls team performed well and with real determination, finishing in 4th position overall. The boys performed with energy and excitement. We didn't finish in medal position, but as always our children displayed excellent sportsmanship and in line with our sporting values. Well done children.

Football League Meeting 1

at Roefield 3G pitches

Monday 10th October 2022

Team: Deen (C), Logan, Michael, Muhammad I , Mohammed Faizan, Zayd, Haris, Eesa, Bilaal

Our first outing this season as a team and all children performed with the wonderful resilience and sportsmanship that makes all our staff and parents proud. We played against 5 schools on a beautiful Autumnal evening. Our first match against St James' showed real promise, with fantastic attack taking place and multiple shots at goal, which we were unfortunately able to convert. Bilaal and Haris performed beautifully together in defence, but our opponents managed to steal one past us at the last minute. This was a shame as the team had possession for most of the game. We lost our next Game against St Leonards', but our third game against Chatburn was BRILLIANT: moving Bilaal upfront created a completely different team dynamic: They began passing  and moving the ball around the pitch with much more thought. We were thrilled when Logan scored 2  superb goals, which were well supported by Bilaal, resulting in our first win of the season. Our game against Moorland was tough, but this was to be expected due to their football academy, but we did manage to score the first goal in the match and in the end, it was a very respectable loss. A big well done to Eesa, who showed everyone that he had earned his position as Goal Keeper with some spectacular saves throughout the evening. Also a special well done to Muhammad I. Mohammed Faizan and Michael who played brilliantly in their first EVER matches! All in all, despite the losses, we had a wonderful evening and are proud of our first win and the start that we have made to the season. The team showed a lot of promise, but more importantly, their sportsmanship was outstanding and everyone had fun....even Mrs Heyworth who is slowly but surely learning the game! Thank you to all the parents for transporting and supporting the children in such a positive manner. A special Thank you to Mrs Riaz for helping Mrs Heyworth with the team management - it is very much appreciated!

Cross Country

at St Michael and St John's, Clitheroe

Monday 3rd October 2022

A Team: Abigail, Anna, Georgia, Matilda,Aleena, Laura, Bilaal, Logan, MH, Zayd, Haris, Mohammad Faizan

B Team: Sawdah, Maisie, Daisy, Inaaya, Poppy S, Muhammad I, Zak, Zaydene, Michael, Zayn

Fun Runners: Poppy B, Juwairiyah, Mohammed R

We were blown away by the number of children wanting to participate in this event this year. Although it is an event designed for Y5 and Y6 children, the enthusiasm by members of Y3 and Y4 meant that we were able to take 25 children to enjoy the event in Clitheroe.

29 teams from schools across the Ribble Valley competed in the fine Autumnal weather, supported by a packed parental audience. The girls were asked to race first and the A team finished in a respectable in 9th position. A massive CONGRATULATIONS to Abigail Redmayne who finished in an impressive 5th Position in a very large and strong field of girls. Abigail will now represent Ribble Valley in the county finals in the summer term. Also a special mention to our little pocket rocket, Poppy S, who (as a Y3) was by far the smallest and probably the youngest competitor on the course... She was determined to keep up with the big girls and give them a run for their money with a happy but determined face on her all the way round. We look forward to seeing what Poppy manages to accomplish as she moves through school and into Y6. Keep running Poppy!

The boys race followed on from the girls, after which the fun runners participated. A special mention for Mohammad R who, whilst running with real determination, stated to Mrs Heyworth that he didn't understand why everyone was so keen to win because just "taking part is what matters" and that it was taking part that was "fun"! What a great attitude Mohammad! we can all learn a lot from your outlook and determination. It was heartwarming to see the whole Balderstone Squad running to accompany him towards the end of his last lap so that he was not on his own and to cheer and encourage him in that last push. Many teachers from other schools commented on this amazing spectacle of kindness, teamwork and Mohammad's determination. Mrs Heyworth and Mrs Riddell couldn't have be prouder! Well done to all of the children for participating and a massive thank you to all the parents for transporting and supporting the children at the event.
